As architects, designers and urban planners, we all understand that even the smallest details can wreck your project if not done properly. Like many of you, I too, had my fair share of wasting countless hours modelling large areas of context buildings just for the sake of diagrams and perspectives, which could have been spent designing and refining the actual project. For a better workflow, I have recently developed this grasshopper definition for my projects which turned out to be a great time saver.

The definition helps to generate convincing context Office Towers within Rhino 7, using a single building footprint outline as input. The following customizable Building Parameters of the parametric Office Building allows you to quickly create office buildings within a matter of seconds:

  1. Number of Storeys
  2. Floor Height (Ground Storey & Typical Storey)
  3. Column Grid Spacing
  4. Column Size (length & width)
  5. Numbers of Mullions between Columns
  6. Slab Thickness

To further automate the geometry baking from Grasshopper to Rhino 7, I have added in additional definition which requires installing gh plugin eleFront (version 5.1.2). The gh definition will still function without the eleFront plugin, however you will have to manually bake the various building elements separately. However, for best outcome of context building generation with variation, you may consider purchasing my other Office Tower grasshopper definition in my profile.

I have tidied up and annotated the gh definition for any keen beginner who wishes to learn gh. I hope that this script helps increase your productivity and piques your interest in parametric design/modelling :)
